位於上環的檸檬王係上環一帶售賣涼果接近五十年，依家已經傳至第三代接手，本次接受訪問嘅係第二代傳人「大唐生」。

 

檸檬王嘅歷史由上環永吉街開始，第一代傳人起初只係喺車仔檔上售賣用雞皮紙袋裝住一袋袋嘅涼果，到後來第一代退落嚟，輪到第二代嘅大唐生接手，但由於小販牌照只係由大唐生嘅父親持有，所以每次大唐生都要冒著被充公貨物的風險開檔，期間更係有9個月暫停營業，只依靠熟客到附近嘅貨倉光顧。後來經過多番轉折，聽從蔡瀾先生的秘書朱小姐嘅建議，尋求區議員嘅協助，最終獲得食環處嘅酌情處理，令大唐生能夠返回永吉街擺檔！喺2018年，檸檬王更成功搬入對面嘅地舖，並由第三代傳人接手，為檸檬王增添一份現代感，從以前的雞皮紙袋變成了錫紙包裝，令佢地有更多人認識。

 

最令大唐生印象深刻嘅係有次一位揸住拐杖嘅伯伯要搵檸檬王，原來伯伯係97年時移民到紐約定居，呢次返到香港特意到檸檬王購買幾袋涼果，然後就同大唐生講佢要依家截的士趕到機場返紐約，令大唐生深刻地記得呢位客人。

Located in Sheung Wan, Lemon King(檸檬王) has been selling pickled fruits for about 50 years. This time, we interviewed the second generation owner of the shop, Mr Tong.

 

Lemon King started their business on Wing Kut Street(永吉街).In the beginning, the first generation owner used mobile stalls(車仔檔) to sold pickled fruits that are packed inside paper bags. After the retirement of the first generation owner, Mr Tong took over the business. Since the hawker licence is owned by Mr Tong’s father, Mr Tong had to face the risk of his products being confiscated. At that time, he stopped doing business for 9 months and can only depend on frequent customers to earn a living. After going through some kind of unexpected obstacles, Mr Tong followed advice given by famous gourmet, Mr Chua Lam(蔡瀾) ’s secretary, Miss Chu. Mr Tong then sought help from a district councillor and finally got a discretion from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department. Mr Tong can then continue to run his business on Wing Kut Street(永吉街). In 2018, Lemon King was moved to an actual shop to continue their business, and was taken over by the third generation owner. Some modern features are added, e.g. packages made of aluminium foil replaced the old paper bags. Therefore, more and more people got to know Lemon King.

 

One of the most unforgettable experiences for Mr Tong is that once there was an old man holding a crutch and he was looking for Lemon King. Mr Tong figured out that the old man was originally a local, but he emigrated to New York in 1997. He specially went to Lemon King and wanted to buy some pickled fruits back. The old man told Mr Tong that he was in a hurry to catch a taxi going to the airport, thus letting Mr Tong remember this customer.

 

The most recommended pickled fruits of Lemon King are lemon and lemon ginger. If you ever walk past Sheung Wan, don’t forget to visit Lemon King and try the delicious loenggwo (pickled fruits)!
